Press the Live View button. If the AF mode is set to Quick mode (as in Step 1), you see the familiar white AF box appear on the LCD monitor, only it's not an AF box anymore. It's a magnifying frame that you can move around later (there's not much point to it now) and check the focus with.

If it can record/show live video for 30+ minutes, then it gets classified as a video camera, not a still camera, which has implications for product classification and taxation. Seems like there's a work-around. Pressing the shutter button halfway resets the timer, and there's a pref option to make the button sticky.
Live View shooting does not work in Basic Zone modes. During Live View shooting, do not point the camera toward the sun. The sun's heat can damage the camera's components. Live View shooting will disable the following Custom Function settings; [C.Fn III 8 Mirror lockup] [C.Fn IV 9 Shutter/AE lock button] [C.Fn IV 10 SET button when shooting].
How 'bout "never". I shoot w/60D in the studio using Live View extensively for months now (and a T2i and 5DII and 40D before that) and I've never once had a camera overheat from using Live View. Why would you assume this was a problem? If it is merely a rumour, it was started by Canon itself. Page 152 of the 60D PDF manual says:
